Global warming

Global warming is a problem that affects the entire world and that we need to know about in order to protect our planet. It occurs when the air around us gets too hot. This happens because the earth is trapping more heat than it should due to the amount of gasses we produce.
The gases that cause global warming are called greenhouse gases. The most common are carbon dioxide (CO2) and methane. These gases are produced when we burn fossil fuels such as oil and gas, and when we cut down trees in deforestation.
Global warming can cause many problems, such as melting glaciers and rising sea levels. It can also cause droughts, floods, and stronger storms.
But all is not lost, there are things we can do to help reduce global warming. Some of these things are: using less energy, walking, biking, or taking public transportation instead of driving, turning off lights and electronic devices when we're not using them, and recycling.
Helping to protect our planet and prevent global warming is something we can do every day!

After reading this Eco-note, we invite you to keep learning with simple and fun activities to do in the classroom or at home. With small actions and big ideas, together we can help take care of our planet.

Observe in the classroom or at home which things use energy: lights, computers, televisions, chargers.

Build a tree of good actions!
Draw a large tree on recycled cardboard. Then create paper leaves where you can write or draw actions that help the planet, such as saving water, recycling, walking more or turning off lights.
Each new leaf will be an idea to help reduce global warming and protect the Earth.

Download the coloring page and color it.

Turn off lights when they are not needed.
Unplug chargers and devices that are not being used.
Come one day a week by walking or sharing transportation.

Try an EcoKids eco-game about caring for the environment.

Global warming happens when the Earth becomes hotter than normal because of pollution and the excessive use of some resources. You can help too: saving energy, recycling, protecting trees and using less plastic are small actions that make a big difference.
